Not 100% certain what I have here...
The previous owner claims it to be a hand-painted, re-touched late 1800s glass photo negative showing some sort of Masonic ceremony or ritual ...
While I cannot say for certain if that is correct, I can tell you that all I learned anew from 30 minutes of research is that it likely depicts an ENTERED APPRENTICE ceremony.
Maybe that 342 at bottom center means something???
Glass negative is encased in a hard cardboard frame. That is NOT a crack in the glass near the top, but rather the line of the ceiling.
FRAME measures just shy of 2-3/4 wide X about 2-1/8 tall.
CONDITION: USED/PRE-OWNED... Glass and image looks a little hazy and has numerous very fine scratches in it; I did nothing to try to clean it out of fear of damaging it. No apparent cracks or chips in the glass. The frame has splittng & chipping on three sides. Glass is very securely encased in the frame.
